If you are even shorter on time the instant mashed potato recipe can be used as well.

Step-by-Step Directions to Make Country Mashed Potatoes at Home

  1. Wash and cut the potatoes into halves or thirds depending upon their size. Add the potatoes to a pot of boiling water and let them cook until they’re fork-tender. That’s when you’ll know they are finished cooking.

Skin On Mashed Potato Recipe Tips

Remember to soak the potatoes in water. This prevents them from oxidizing, plus soaking potatoes in water helps remove excess starch. Excess starch can inhibit the potatoes from cooking evenly as well as creating a gummy or sticky texture on the outside of your potatoes. Cold water is used because hot water would react with the starch activating it, making it harder to separate from the potatoes.
