The Different CrossFit Diet

An active CrossFitter adheres to the Paleo Diet, the Zone Diet, or a combination of the two.

I’ve written in the past an article about the Paleo diet, in which you are essentially eating foods that your ancestors ate. The Paleo CrossFit diet is meant for humans to revert back to eating healthy foods and staying away from the present of consuming sugary and processed foods. One must eat lean meats, seafood, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, healthy fats, and nuts/seeds. Some derivatives of the diet plan include quality carbs, but simply put, if a caveman can’t eat it, neither can you.

Now, there is a second option called the Zone Diet. It was developed more than 30 years ago and has become part of the CrossFit diet. It is proclaimed not as a fad diet, but a lifelong dietary program based on strong science to reduce inflammation. Some benefits of this diet include:

  • Quickly losing body fat at a high rate
  • Being fit for long periods of time
  • The ability to think faster
  • Slow the aging process

To partake in the Zone Diet, the CrossFit nutrition plan goes to the tune of:

  • 1/3rd of your plate must be some lean protein. This could include egg whites, lean beef, poultry, fish, and/or low-fat dairy products.
  • 2/3rd of your plate must be followed by carbohydrates. To achieve this, simply put more fruits and vegetables on your plate. But avoid fruits/vegetables that are high in starch and sugar.
  • You should add a little bit of monounsaturated fat to your meal. This includes olive oil, avocado, and/or almonds. Remember that there are harmful effect of digesting no fat and every healthy diet plan should include moderate amounts of healthy fats.

This CrossFit meal plan is primarily concerned with turning off your weight gain hormones and helps you retain energy throughout the long day.

Summarizing the Best CrossFit Food Plan

While some CrossFitters may prefer to only partake in the CrossFit nutrition plan Paleo Diet or the Zone Diet, many choose to do a combination CrossFit diet. But the main takeaway from the different diets is that given the intensity of CrossFit workouts, lean protein is key in every good diet. Protein helps stabilize the blood sugar, provides energy and the fuel for workouts.

Regarding individual preferences, it may be better to have a combination of the Paleo Diet and the Zone Diet, so that your body doesn’t go into shock. The best way to implement the combination of both CrossFit nutrition plan is to eat regularly but small meals throughout the day; foods that are rich in lean protein and high in vegetables. Nuts and fruits can be useful foods for breakfast, snacking, and dessert purposes.

So keep doing those hard CrossFit workouts. By sticking to a proper combination Paleo diet/Zone diet and doing CrossFit regularly, you will notice a change in your health and the physique of your body.
